Liopetri - Cyprus Overview
The Cyprus town of Liopetri has a variety of shops, banks, post office, pharmacies, and traditional
Travernas. The resorts and beaches of Ayia Napa & Protaras are only a short drive away and offer all the facilities you would expect
from large resorts. The town of Paralimni is also close by with a larger selection of shops and supermarkets. Liopetri is home to
two churches of interest; the medieval church of Panagia with its octagonal dome and in the apse there can still be seen some remnants
of its murals.
It is understood to been built around the 15th century. The remains of a Venetian watchtower and the beautiful natural fishing shelter
at Potamos Liopetrou are a couple of minutes drive from the apartments. Potamos Liopetriou is a photogenic inlet and is where the
local fishermen bring in their catch - and some say the best fish on the island. If you do not want to cook yourself then try one
of the two fish restaurants overlooking the sea all the way down to Cape Greco in the East.
The French poet Arthur Rimbeaud has also worked in this area in the 1880s. Liopetri is traditionally a potato-growing town and still
carries on the traditional craft of basket making.
